Hello! My name is Kaden Rose and I am a 21 year old artist living in northern Nevada. I have been writing poems since 9 years old, scrawling stanzas into a holographic notebook. I am beyond grateful that there are people out there that enjoy reading what I have to write, it has always been my dream to create something bigger with my writing, and I hope the first step to that is Hello Horses.
Hello Horses started early 2026, when I wanted to have a place to share my art and writing without judging it all too harshly. We live in an age where everyone feels so embarrassed to try anything new, and I'd be lying if I said I don't have my own hesitations when I share my work, but I am learning that never trying anything new means always staying in the same place. So instead of running in circles, I started my instagram page @hello.horse.s.
The name Hello Horses is inspired by the song Goodbye Horses by Q Lazzarus. In this song, she uses a metaphor from Hindu philosophy, the metaphor relating horses to the five senses, and leaving them is "transcendence over those who see the world as only earthly and finite." This song holds a special place in my heart, and sometimes it feels nice to imagine transcending beyond all of the feelings and intensity the world has to offer, but I chose the name Hello Horses because it was time for me to face what the world has given me. For me, that meant finally starting the lengthy process of medically transitioning to male. Hello Horses is about embracing the situation given and making the best of it, and I hope to create that feeling in my work.
Hello Horses is also about community. So many magazines have either died out or become too prestigious for many to find a home for their writing, and they typically focus on solely writing. Hello Horses will hopefully soon be a magazine for amateurs and pros alike to display their work, along with articles, art, and photography to resemble a real, classic magazine. Instead of finding us in the checkout of the drugstore, we are found right online and hopefully soon in prnt!
